Summary of Position:
The solid surface fabricator is responsible for fabrication of solid surface finished products. The SSF is responsible for the day-to-day fabrication tasks set in place by the shop manager to meet or exceed daily production goals by ensuring that all products are produced efficiently and accurately and meet quality requirement.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret sketches and fabrication drawings to produce solid surface countertops and products within tolerance and specifications.
- Operate various power equipment, and hand tools of various sizes to process solid surface materials.
- Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or worktables.
- Measure and mark equipment, objects and/or parts to ensure milling and polishing standards are met.
- Grind, sand, clean, and/or polish surfaces to standard finish or as specified using hand tools and power tools, and/or to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing.
- Use adhesives and clamps.
- Verify quality and accuracy of finished workpieces by inspecting them visually, and/or measuring their dimensions, and by feel. Compare them to templates, drawings and/or complimenting products.
- Select adhesives, abrasives, polishes, caulks, etc. when required, according to finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
- Transfer finished products to specified work area, and/or staging areas using moving equipment as required.
- Record product and processing data on specified forms.
- Coordinate and communicate with management, co-workers and others as required.
- Optimize material use and workflow.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment and ensure safe working conditions.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Detail oriented self-starter with the ability to get along with others, communicate effectively, display a positive, respectful, team-oriented attitude, and excel in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
- Critical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills.
- Competent in woodworking construction techniques, general assembly techniques, AWI standards, material characteristics, and woodworking machining and fabrication strategies
- Ability to correctly, efficiently, and safely operate woodworking equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
- Ability to read and accurately comprehend blueprints, sketches, drawings, measuring devices (such as tape measures), labels, and instructions as required.
- Ability to consistently follow standard operating procedures and understand situational requirements to adjust for variations.
- Ability to work under conditions with changing priorities, short deadlines, and multiple work assignments.
- Ability to operate a tow motor preferred.
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver products as required individually and in team lifts
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Auto body shop and/or granite/stone-working experience preferred.
Physical Demands / Safety and OSHA Requirements/ Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and/or move while performing job duties.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, or reach during daily job functions.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. during a team lift.
- Must have visual acuity to perform activities such as operate machines and tools where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach, and to perform mechanical or skilled trades tasks.
- Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as visual inspection involving small defects, operation of machines, read & interpret documents, use of measurement devices and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Work in this occupation may require the use of protective items (i.e. closed toed leather shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, dust mask, and /or respirators etc.).
Seeking a solid surface fabricator in the Youngstown, Ohio and surrounding areas including Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Mercer and Lawrence Counties.
