Summary of Position:
The cabinet maker, fabricator/assembler is responsible for assembling and finishing of all cabinets and cabinet components. Cabinet assembly is also responsible for standard processes of machining, assembly, and packaging as directed by the shop manager. The cabinet maker must also meet and exceed daily production goals, ensuring that all products are produced efficiently and accurately and meet quality requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, shape, and prepare surfaces to construct complete project.
- Set-up and operate the edge bander to finish components as required.
- Apply correct hardware to cabinet components and prepare for assembly.
- Assemble cabinets according to build lists and standard processes using adhesives, hardware, fasteners, clamps and other power tools as required.
- Clean glue out of all assembled cabinets, add shelf tabs and place shelf in cabinet.
- Drill cabinet door/drawer front on drilling equipment for pulls, hinges, and locks, etc.
- Hang doors and insert drawers; install locks and strikes as required.
- Clean excess adhesives, dust, residue, and debris as required.
- Package accessories (i.e. fillers, light rails, shelves or other cabinet-related components and hardware).
- Package and protect products and accessories for safe transfer to the customer.
- Keep work area properly stocked with tools and materials.
- Verify accuracy and quality at each step of the manufacturing, assembly, packaging and shipping process.
- Correct issues promptly and efficiently and coordinate with others and management as needed.
- Coordinate and communicate with management, co-workers and others as required.
- Optimize material use and workflow.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment and ensure safe working conditions.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to get along with others, communicate effectively, display a positive, respectful, team-oriented attitude, and excel in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Competent in woodworking construction techniques, general assembly techniques, AWI standards, material characteristics, and woodworking machining and fabrication strategies
- Ability to correctly, efficiently, and safely operate woodworking equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to read and accurately comprehend sketches, fabrication drawings, measuring devices (such as tape measures), labels, and instructions as required
- Ability to consistently follow standard operating procedures and understand situational requirements to adjust for variations
- Ability to work under conditions with changing priorities, short deadlines, and multiple work assignments
- Ability to operate a tow motor preferred
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver products as required, individually and in team lifts
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Physical Demands / Safety and OSHA Requirements/ Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and/or move while performing job duties.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, or reach during daily job functions.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. during a team lift.
- Must have visual acuity to perform activities such as operate machines and tools where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach, and to perform mechanical or skilled trades tasks.
- Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as visual inspection involving small defects, operation of machines, read & interpret documents, use of measurement devices and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Work in this occupation may require the use of protective items (i.e. closed toed leather shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, dust mask, and /or respirators etc.).
